Profile
Diane is an artist, designer, and creative consultant and educator, with a broad range of skills and experience across key areas of art and design.
For seventeen years Diane was a senior lecturer on the BSc (Hons) product design degrees at the University of Sussex. For seven years of that time, she was the course convenor. She both created and taught courses in design philosophy, toy and game design, visual communications, drawing for design, human factors, design techniques and design for industry, where the workshops focused on design thinking, and the creative process.
Her research centered on visualization and mindfulness and investigated the inward journey of awareness as inspiration for innovation. Students she has mentored have not only gone on to high profile industry positions but also won a variety of prestigious awards across product design, including the International Dyson Award.
Prior to this, Diane taught at Central St. Martins School of Art and the Royal College of Art, where she gained her master’s degree. She is currently an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sussex and a practicing artist, designer/maker working from her studio in Steyning, West Sussex.
Note: Diane uses her maiden name of Diane Jones for her creative work only she is otherwise known by her marital name of ‘Diane Simpson-Little’.
